Find the best odds and bet on the Premier League.Manchester United extended their lead at the top of the Premier League to seven points after drawing 0-0 withNewcastle at St. James’ Park.In a high octane clash on Tyneside, Sir Alex Ferguson’s side failed to break down their resilient hosts and have offered slim hope of title glory to both Arsenal and Chelsea ahead of their respective games on Wednesday night.

With the celebrations of their noisy neighbours still ringing in the ears of the United squad, Ferguson looked to erase the memories of Wembley by making five changes to his side. Wayne Rooney returned from a much talked about two-game ban for his foulmouthed tirade at Upton Park the most notable boost to the visitors. The man he replaced, Dimitar Berbatov, didn’t even make the bench.

As one talismanic Liverpudlian returned for the champions-in-waiting another was missing for the hosts, with Kevin Nolan suspended for a clash against a team he has haunted on a number of occasions during his time at Bolton. Nolan was the most glaring omission from an Alan Pardew side that were looking to finally cement their place in the Premier League for next season, as well as disrupting their opponent’s title charge.

St. James’ Park was rocking from the off and the opening exchanges were as vigorous as you might expect for a battle taking place in the height of end-of-season intensity. It took only two minutes for the game to nearly yield a breakthrough as Rooney, finding space down the left, hit an inch-perfect cross to the feet of Javier Herandez only for the Mexican to be foiled by a superb Tim Krul save in a position from where he is often so dangerous.

An opening that appeared to signal the beginning of a dominant trip to Tyneside for the Premier League leaders was soon turned on its head however as Newcastle, clearly shaken into life, began to dictate possession and plough forward in great numbers. Their endeavour was so nearly rewarded as Gutierrez, jinking in from the left, saw a dangerous looking effort deflected wide. It was a start that was certainly giving the home fans something to shout about.

Pardew’s charges were showing no fear and certainly had the better of the opening 20 minutes but as is so often the way against a United side of such dynamism, the Magpies appeared culpable on the break and it was a counter attack that led to United’s second excellent chance as Rooney, latching on to a fine ball over the top from Hernandez, failed to finish from a position where he is certainly capable of hitting the back of the net.

The ferocity of the St James’ crowd had been quelled somewhat as United’s maturity and assured touch on the ball blossomed on the half hour mark and the visitors were looking to pin their hosts into their own half. However, lacking the cutting edge to capitalise on their dominance threatened to leave United’s endeavours wasted as the first half neared its conclusion.

Stalemate | Barton impressed as Giggs missed terrific second half chanceA turn of fortunes should have come to fruition only two minutes before the break as the hosts broke in the form of Barton, who down the right hand side and looked dangerous for much of the first half.  A deep cross from the flank met Peter Lovenkrands alone in the box but the Dane failed to prove great, heading a fantastic chance hopelessly wide to the despair of the Toon Army.

United returned from the half time break looking very like a team with a more pressing agenda than their hosts and sustained five minute period of pressure culminated in a header from Ryan Giggs, who had spent much of the first half as a passenger in the visitor’s midfield, saved comfortably by Krul.  A let off for a Newcastle side under increasing pressure.

However, in a game that had been topsy-turvy from the opening minute the pendulum nearly swung the way of Alan Pardew’s side just before the hour mark as Lovenkrands, tentatively prowling on the edge of the box, fell to the floor under a tackle from Anderson. The crowd were convinced, unfortunately for the former Rangers man, Lee Probert was not.

United continued to probe as the 70th minute mark approached and their breakthrough looked all the world to have arrived at the feet of Giggs but the Welshman, who had been rusty throughout, passively sidefooted an effort wide from about 10 yards out having collected the ball after a fantastic venture into the box by Patrice Evra.

It was becoming a fight of subtle counter punching as the game inevitably stretched and it was the home side's turn to lash narrowly wide as Stephen Ireland, having been brought on to make his debut merely seconds earlier, latched on to an Ameobi knock down to half volley past Van der Sar and the right-hand post from outside the United penalty area.

United were looking increasingly panicked as the game entered its final stages and Michael Owen, a man most unpleasant on Tyneside was brought on to break the deadlock to a chorus of boos from the St James' faithful.

Seemingly happy with an invaluable point, Newcastle looked sat deep and took in the waves of pressure coming their way and hearts were in mouths in stoppage time as Hernandez went down in the box but the referee booked the diminutive Mexican for simulation.

Complaints were made by the visitors at the final whistle but a sense of frustration with their own inability to break down Alan Pardew's side emanated more prominently. Newcastle reached the much-desired 40 point mark as the season enters its final stretch, for United, salvation may take a little more waiting.

It's Manchester United at home to Chelsea with the Barclays Premier League title on the line - and it's LIVE!

Sir Alex Ferguson does not believe Carlo Ancelotti deserves to have his future as Chelsea manager brought into question.

In the immediate aftermath of Chelsea's Champions League quarter-final defeat to Manchester United last month, it was suggested Roman Abramovich was ready to call time on the Italian's short stay at Stamford Bridge.

It would represent a remarkable conclusion to a tenure that brought a domestic double in Ancelotti's first full season but shows just how keenly Abramovich views success in Europe.

However, the epitaphs were written on the basis Chelsea had no chance of retaining the Premier League title.

Instead, they headed to Old Trafford on Sunday knowing victory would take them back to the top of the table, with just two games remaining.

And Ferguson feels that emphasises how wide of the mark those previous assessments of Ancelotti have been.

"I have every respect for Carlo Ancelotti," Ferguson told United Review, "an outstanding man and a great coach with a dignity that has helped him shrug off the unfounded criticism that dogged him a little while ago.

"Where it comes from, I am not sure.

"To a certain extent, he will understand criticism because there is plenty of it in Italy. But what he has experienced in England seems particularly unfounded.

"He has won both the European Cup and the Scudetto as a player and manager and last season did the league and FA Cup double with Chelsea.

"He doesn't deserve to be questioned or future queried the way it has been this season."

Ronaldo not interested in Citizenship and money

Ronaldo not interested in Citizenship and money, wallpaper, poster, shooting ball

Real Madrid superstar has refused talk of a move to Manchester City, saying money is not everything.

According to reports in the Sun, the wing wizard was dismissive of reports that the Premier League big-spenders were keen to splash the cash for him, to the tune of £150 million in transfer fees, and £21 million a year in wages.

Ronaldo said: "It's not bad huh? We have to think about it well. I'm not going to City. I give you my word. I'm not going. Money is not the most important thing.

"If it was for money I could have the double of what I have.

"If it was for money I would leave. The most important thing is the behaviour of the people and they treat me tremendously here and I am very happy in Madrid."

Torres reflects on worst season

Chelsea, striker, Fernando Torres, wallpaper, poster, news, hot, sexy
Chelsea striker Fernando Torres admits last season was his worst in the Barclays Premier League.

Torres switched Spain for England when he opted to leave his boyhood club Atletico Madrid for Liverpool back in 2007. The Spanish international enjoyed a rapid rise in the Premier League with a flurry of goals in his first few seasons.

The 27-year-old striker would move on to Chelsea for a British transfer record fee of £50million in the January 2011 transfer window, but since then he has scored just once in 19 appearances.

However, the striker insists he has no regrets about the move and is confident he will be firing on all cylinders again once the new campaign begins after what he has described as his worst season in England so far.

Manchester United 3-1 Chelsea 18 sept 2011

Manchester United 3-1 Chelsea
Manchester United 3-1 Chelsea 18 sept 2011

Manchester United claimed a record-equalling 18th
successive home win by beating Chelsea 3-1 to march two points clear at
the Premier League summit.
And that does not even scratch the surface of a day of drama against Chelsea.

First-half goals from Chris Smalling, Nani and Wayne Rooney - his ninth of the season - proved enough for the hosts.

However,
Rooney also had a 'Moscow moment' missing a second-half penalty,
slipping as he went to strike it, Fernando Torres scored only his second
Chelsea goal, then unbelievably fired wide of a completely empty net
after rounding David de Gea.

De Gea had already repelled a
marginally less glaring chance for Ramires and in stoppage time, Dimitar
Berbatov was denied by Cole, whose earlier poor challenge on Javier
Hernandez had led the Mexican to hobble off in considerable pain.

It all ended with United matching an achievement from the 1904-05 season, when they were a Second Division club.

Correctly, Ferguson observed this was United's toughest test to date.

The same could also be said of Villas-Boas' Chelsea though. And they came up short.

Chelsea
did carve out a succession of opportunities that at one stage turned
the game into a personal contest between the Blues and De Gea.

The
save that prevented Ramires prodding into an open goal was the best,
drawing applause from Peter Schmeichel in the directors' box, and he
knows a thing or two about the pressure of keeping net at Old Trafford.

In
truth, Chelsea should have scored that one. Torres did his bit, rolling
the ball across the box. A better placed Daniel Sturridge could not
believe Ramires had nipped in ahead of him as the goal gaped.

That
was the trouble though. Chelsea needed Torres to convert those chances,
not create them. He eventually did. And then contributed to one of
those bloopers videos that will haunt him for the remainder of his
career.

As Chelsea pressed, United created nothing. Their opener
already converted after slack marking that angered John Terry and must
have alarmed Villas-Boas.

There was nothing special about Ashley Young's eighth minute free-kick, which was floated to the far post.

But
Terry found himself the only one defending as United shirts piled in,
Smalling the man to make a connection to turn home his first league
goal.

Having escaped unscathed from Chelsea's pummelling, United
went to the other end and doubled their lead thanks to a piece of
brilliance from Nani.

Questions should be asked about the ease
with which Juan Mata was brushed aside but once the midfielder was out
of the way, Nani advanced with confidence and drove a 20-yard effort
into the top corner.

By half-time, United had a third as Terry's
attempted clearance bounced off Nani and into the path of Rooney, who
tapped home his ninth of the season.

The credit went to Phil
Jones, although the aura surrounding the summer arrival from Blackburn
was punctured by the ease with which Torres got behind him to slot home
Nicolas Anelka's through ball 30 seconds after the re-start.

It
was only Torres' second goal since arriving from Liverpool and justified
Villas-Boas' decision to introduce Anelka for Lampard at half-time.

Having already threatened on numerous occasions, Chelsea's confidence grew immediately.

United
nerves would have been eased had they converted the penalty Jose
Bosingwa gifted them when he tripped Nani after initially remaining
static to allow the Portugal winger to seize on the loose ball after his
own deflected shot had crashed against the bar.

Neither side
will forget how Terry slipped as he went to slot home what would have
been the decisive spot-kick in the shoot-out to decide the 2008
Champions League final.

Today Rooney emulated him, his standing
foot giving way, the ball bouncing harmlessly wide after the striker had
fired it into his own body.

United might easily have had another
spot-kick when Cole flew into Hernandez after Rooney had pushed a
glorious chance against the post.

The tackle was not great and
resulted in Hernandez hobbling down the tunnel in obvious pain as he was
replaced by Berbatov but, having fired into the side netting, Dowd felt
the incident was worthy of a yellow card and no more.

Having
scored once in front of the Stretford End, Torres suffered utter
humiliation seven minutes from time as he raced on to Ramires' through
ball, rounded De Gea and then somehow fired wide of a completely empty
net.

Berbatov missed a golden opportunity himself in stoppage
time, as Cole cleared off the line after Rooney had set the Bulgarian up
with an admittedly misdirected pass.

Transfer window shuts with a bang

As expected, Lionel Messi did not join Real Madrid,
neither did Cristiano Ronaldo cross over to Barcelona. But there were
many shock transfer deadline moves.

Here are some of the highest profile transfers that were made at the death of the transfer window:

Owen Hargreaves to Manchester City

The
shock deal came to light on Tuesday, when Hargreaves underwent an
extensive medical, which he came through with flying colours.

Hargreaves'
arrival will complete Mancini's extensive summer recruitment drive,
becoming the Italian's sixth signing, all of them internationals,
ensuring the Blues will not be lacking in experience on the tough road
ahead.

Mikel Arteta - Everton to Arsenal

Fee: Undisclosed

The Gunners looked to have missed out on Arteta earlier on deadline day after Everton rejected a bid for their star midfielder.

But
Arteta reportedly forced the issue and Arsenal looked to have reached
an agreement with their Premier League rivals before the 11pm deadline,
revealing they had signed the 29-year-old on a four-year contract.

Raul Meireles - Liverpool to Chelsea

Fee: £12million

Chelsea complete swoop for Meireles

Chelsea
succeeded in another last-gasp raid of Liverpool after completing the
signing of Raul Meireles with minutes of the transfer window remaining.

In
an echo of Fernando Torres' £50million January switch, the Blues left
it until just before the deadline to complete a deal for Meireles.

Like
Torres, the midfielder submitted a written transfer request, with
Liverpool agreeing a fee with Chelsea reportedly in the region of
£12million.

Yossi Benayoun - Chelsea to Arsenal

Fee: Season loan

Israel
captain Benayoun had been linked with a number of clubs but opted for
the Gunners, who will play in this season's Champions League.

The
midfielder, who is currently on international duty, wrote on Twitter:
"I sign with Arsenal, very happy and excited about it, but now my head
is only in the game against Greece on Friday, thanks for the support."

Craig Bellamy - Man City to Liverpool

Fee: Free Transfer

Craig Bellamy - Man City to Liverpool

Craig Bellamy seals Liverpool return

The
32-year-old spent last season on loan at npower Championship side
Cardiff after a rift with City boss Roberto Mancini saw him excluded
from the first-team squad.

Bellamy's return to Anfield comes four years after he left having been brought to the club 12 months earlier by Rafael Benitez.

He
scored nine goals in 42 matches but off-field issues, most notably an
infamous incident with a golf club and team-mate John Arne Riise and a
strained relationship with Benitez, contributed to his departure to West
Ham.

Per Mertesacker - Werder Bremen to Arsenal

Fee: £8million

Arsenal seal Mertesacker deal

The
Germany defender signed what the club described as "a long-term
contract" for an undisclosed fee, believed to be around £8million.

Mertesacker said: "I had a great time at SV Werder Bremen and I'm grateful to the club."Moving to London enables me to fulfil a dream and a further step in my career. "The Premier League has always represented a great challenge for me."

Joe Cole - Liverpool to Lille

Fee: Season loan

Joe Cole - Liverpool to Lille

Joe Cole moves to Lille on loan

The
29-year-old travelled to France on Tuesday to undergo a medical and,
despite a late bid by Aston Villa, the player has opted to join the
Ligue 1 club.

The England midfielder has failed to impress at Anfield having moved on a free transfer from Chelsea last summer.

Aston
Villa had made a late bid to take Cole to the midlands but it was
always going to be difficult as Liverpool had the option to loan him to a
club who were not a Barclays Premier League rival, which was
preferable.

Peter Crouch - Tottenham to Stoke City

Fee: £10million

Peter Crouch seals Stoke move

Crouch
has signed a four-year deal with the Potters after struggling for
first-team opportunities at Spurs of late, and the forward completed a
busy day for Tony Pulis' team on transfer deadline day, with Wilson
Palacios and Cameron Jerome also signing from Spurs and Birmingham
respectively.

The Crouch deal could even rise to £12million dependent on the fulfilment of various clauses.

Scott Parker - West Ham to Tottenham

Fee: £6million

Tottenham complete Parker signing

Parker,
30, had been a long-term target for Spurs manager Harry Redknapp, the
former Charlton youngster having been voted Footballer of the Year for
his efforts to keep West Ham up last season.

The
England midfielder on Tuesday handed in a formal transfer request to
West Ham, and the deal, believed to be worth £6million, was completed on
Wednesday afternoon.
